The Best Way to Start Off Your Emails
Whenever I have to send an important email I usually worry about two things: if I used too many exclamation points, and if my greeting is right for the situation. So I was geeked to see that someone did the research to find out which email greetings are the most effective. Turns out that the top three choices, as far as getting a good response, are “Hey”, “Hello” and “Hi”. The research suggests that you “use ‘Hi’ for people you don't know well or haven't emailed in a long time,” and to “use ‘Hey’ for people you know well or have recently corresponded with.” If you're TOO formal with your greetings, it can actually backfire.
